District 2-T3
Lions of West Texas
District 2-T3, the Lions of West Texas have formed a serendipitous alliance with CEREDIL Lions of Mexico. We provide them with greatly needed resources from our abundance and they extend our hands of service to the poorest and neediest of our neighbors. In my view, all of this is as it should be. After all we are all about service and ideally that service should be to those who could not possibly ever pay us back -but you’ve heard me go on about that enough already.
As you may know, CEREDIL Lions is one of the biggest users of eyeglasses collected by Lions and recycled at the Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (TLERC). They receive countless eyeglasses from TLERC and distribute them through 32 clinics that they have established throughout Mexico. Lion Coy Gonzalez of CEREDIL has been their ambassador to Lions and other organizations in Texas and other parts of the U.S. and as such, I have heard him speak on several occasions.
As it turns out, District 2-T3 has recently donated over 4000 semi-finished eyeglass lenses to CEREDIL through Lion Coy. And, through this association, Lion Coy was invited to speak at our Mid-Winter Conference on 25 January 2020 in Odessa, TX. To make a long story short, Lion Coy spoke at our conference and made a plea for District 2-T3 not to ever stop supporting TLERC and CEREDIL Lions because their existence depends largely on that support.
It fills me with joy to inform all of you that before Lion Coy left Odessa, one of our great Lions there donated to him an expensive, entire set of eyeglass-making equipment and a number of eyeglass display cases which I have no doubt CEREDIL will put to good use in Mexico. The Lion that made this donation is the same Lion that secured the 4000 lenses for CEREDIL previously and he has secured an additional eight pallets of lenses being shipped to El Paso for them as well. This Lion has made all these donations in the name of our district -DISTRICT 2-T3 LIONS OF WEST TEXAS.
Be proud of your Lions West Texas for we are few, but like the U.S. Marines, we are proud…and we serve.
Yours in Service,
Joe Palomo
Governor, District MD2-T3
