San Angelo Concho Pearl Lions Club Flood Response
San Angelo Concho Pearl Lions Club Disaster Grant Relief
Friday, July 4, 2025 started early for the Concho Pearl Lions club. We were scheduled to assist other Lions clubs cook pancakes for the Baptist Memorial center. Waking up to rainy, stormy weather made us all question whether breakfast could be held. Soon it was announced that roads were flooded and all citizens were urged to stay in place. Do not travel on the roads.

Social media soon began showing areas impacted with high water and those needing assistance. At this time Concho Pearls reached out to TLF trustee PDG Keith Perrine to see if we could request a grant as soon as possible to assist the many that would need help.
Social media was helpful in outlining areas impacted and what would be useful. While we were not physically able to rescue, move heavy household items, or assist in construction, we knew that we could serve by getting supplies to those in need. Upon acknowledgement and receipt of $3000.00 in grant money, we began shopping for cleaning supplies and other useful items: buckets, brooms, shovels, boxes, gloves, masks, tarps.

We watched closely as disaster relief efforts began across San Angelo to learn what was needed by those affected. Information and updates were shared by several agencies. As we gathered supplies, we alerted San Angelo by our Facebook posts that Concho Pearl Lions Club would start delivering supplies to those in need and requested addresses be sent to us.
On Saturday, July 12, the first delivery began. Overwhelmed with addresses, we began deliveries. If no one was available at an address, we scouted the neighborhoods for others who were out working at their home, offering whatever we had in our vehicles that they needed or could use.

The appreciation we felt was enormous. Fearing vandalism, some citizens were afraid to leave their location, so having supplies delivered was extremely helpful. Fueled by the huge response, we continued to add to our supplies and scheduled another delivery on July 19, again highly successful.
Knowing that we could get supplies to our neighbors when they were overwhelmed with emotions and delivering them with a big Lion smile, hug and prayer was heartwarming. These TLIF funds enabled our club to fill 32 buckets with cleaning supplies and reach over 40 addresses in affected neighborhoods.
