District 2-S3 – Where There’s a Need, There’s a Lion
In a joint service project involving the Bulverde, Canyon Lake Noon, and New Braunfels Evening Lions Clubs, several Lions came together on a recent Saturday morning to assist in the clean-up of a home in Spring Branch that had turned into a jungle of grasses, brush, and had even overgrown the fence bordering it. The home was occupied by a local family who were facing multiple health issues. The upkeep on the property simply became too much and it was left to nature to take over.
Contributing their own group garden tools and mowers, Lions worked diligently for several hours to remove tall grass, trim the unruly tree limbs, and make the home’s front door finally accessible and gave the entire property greater curb appeal.
The mother currently suffers from cancer and her husband recently suffered a stroke. They are parents to a Down-syndrome son and are all physically incapable of maintaining their property. The Lions were eager to come together to lend their muscles and tools to this project to help a neighbor. In addition to sweat equity, they generously donated club funds to hire a professional landscaping company to finish the heavier clearing and haul away of debris. But the story doesn’t end here: the Lions plan to visit the property in about 6 months and schedule another joint workday if needed.
